Six Days in June | Ilan Ziv

2007 | 3 Episodes | 52 min | English, Hebrew, Arabic & Russian | English Subtitles

Synopsis

The shooting lasted only six tense days in June 1967, but the Six Day War has never really ended. Every crisis that has ripped through this region in the ensuing decades, from the Jordanian Palestinian Civil war in 1970, the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre, the October 1973 War, the Lebanon War, the Oslo peace talks, the Camp David accords, the current Intifada – all flow from those fateful six days. Though confined physically to the Middle East, the war’s political impact reached far beyond the boundaries of the region. Rarely in modern times has so short and localized a conflict had such profound global consequences.

The Six Day War shifted the balance of power not just in the Middle East, but also around the globe. While many films have been made over the years on the June 1967 war, none offer this level of breadth and depth. We will mould the immense archival material into a riveting narrative, following day by day the count down to war and hour by hour the six days of actual fighting. The detail we have is quite remarkable: transcriptions of stormy confrontations between leading Israeli generals and government ministers, arguments over America’s response to the war in the White House situation room and Oval office.

For the first time we have access to the actual content of telephone phone conversations between Egyptian leader Gammal Abdul Nasser and Jordan’s King Hussein, late night discussions between Nasser and his advisors and the content of the first “Red Phone” (Moscow –Washington Hot Line installed after the Cuban Missile Crisis) conversation between US President Lyndon Johnson and the Soviet Premiere Alexei Kosygin.
